OBC Industry Experts Weigh in on Whether the Death of Email Is Looming
An interesting question about the future of email was recently posed on HubSpot's blog: Is Email Dying in the Face of Social Media and SMS? The general consensus of the people interviewed in the clip was that email is not dying.
The ALLIANCE Academy has been providing an extensive lineup of Webinars and workshops for office business center operators focusing on social media. Susan Smith, Executive Director of The Academy said, "I agree that email is not going away and we choose the medium for the audience and the message. We all start our day and end our day with checking email, and that’s a process I am not willing to give up."
Executive Director of ALLIANCE Impact Marketing Mike Sullivan weighed in, saying, "It sounds like a bit of overblown hype to me. Death, no. Change in behaviors? Yes, definitely. Email will have its place for a long time to come, but social media often allows people to communicate in a more efficient manner than email and it allows you to communicate much differently. You can send it out to all your friends, but it doesn’t clutter an inbox and you don’t have to remember to type in all your friends email addresses. However, for one-on-one communications, or certain types of communications to multiple users, where you want to address recipients directly (and ensure they know they are being addressed directly), make it easily searchable, etc., nothing else beats email."
